Liga FEM project: « Our Field, Our Rules”, prevention of violence against women by football
1. What is Liga FEM?
Liga FEM is a social project through football which expects to empower young girls (from 12 years to 18) of 4 communities in social exclusion so that they have more personal and collective tools to fight for their rights and a life without violence. This has been possible thanks to the establishment of pedagogical events as football (especially with the methodology of street football), socio-educative and artistic actions.
2. Objective of the Liga FEM
The aim of this project is to develop a complete community process, to prevent violence against women and to allow women’s human rights to be respected. It is designed for young girls of communities who are victims of social exclusion and organized by means of a women street football league.
3. Working themes of the Liga FEM
The project has four educational / sports working themes which are developed in order to offer many activities for participants of Liga FEM.
1. Creation of women football clubs with themethodology of street football: It means the creation of an organized arena for women participating by means of a football club in which girls can be active members of a women football team and receive a training for the practice of street football which is played in three times and attaches much importance to the strengthening of values associated to sex-equality and prevention of violence.
2. A formative process with a playful and socio-educational methodology: it corresponds to the conception and the implementation of educational modules thanks to workshops where are tackled issues linked to the problems faced by women in current society and the strategy to overtake them.
Thematic units which will be tackled during these workshops are linked with the experience of the football world whose she are participant:
- Module 1: A Goal for Women.
- Module 2: The field for Us.
- Module 3: Play clean, refusal of the violence against women.
- Module 4: Goals for Hope: Creation of liberated life from violence’s project
3. Monitoring psycho-social: We are paying attention to situations of violence and discriminations faced by participants of the project. This is possible thanks to inter-institutional cooperation, to the professionals in psychology attention and to social working.
4. Creation and functioning of the LIGA FEM: It is here question of the formation of a football league for girls, in which participate women football clubs from the communities participating, which makes the exchange between communities and the meeting between girls from various groups and sectors possible
Where does it take place? Currently the LIGA FEM takes place in four urban communities of the area of San José: Los Cuadros de Purral, León XIII, Rincón Grande de Pavas y Guararí
